Our Name
We chose the name, Shruti Institute for Vedic Arts, to embody our educational mission – to awaken the heart and expand its wisdom.
Shruti means "that which is heard," the wellspring of knowledge that underlies all traditions that lead to freedom from suffering, especially Yoga. Because the original Yogis (the rishis of ancient India) heard truth like a string that is plucked, the word became synonymous with wisdom, called Veda.
Veda means “knowledge of the highest order that encompasses all aspects of life.” It has been called a Science, because of its effect on awakening the Intellect to its highest potential. Yet Veda is also experienced as an exquisite spiritual art form because it fully awakens the Heart.
Our Logo
Shruti Institute of Vedic Arts’ logo consists of two parts. The first part is the Sanskrit syllable, Shri, which like Om, is a powerful seed mantra.
Shri is the sound form of Lakshmi, the Vedic goddess of wealth, abundance, and happiness. The wealth she bestows is not just money in the bank, but wisdom and knowledge for the spirit. There is no price that can be paid for knowing how to be happy and peaceful.
The second part of the logo is a Sanskrit character known as visarga. Visarga means emanation and expansion.
Together, the symbol means the all-expanding light of true wealth, which is wisdom. |
