Becoming a Jyotishi:
Dear Prospective Jyotishi!
I'm pleased to announce my 600-hour Jyotisha (Vedic Astrology and Life Coaching) Certification Program will begin again in February 2010.
You may ask – “Why should I become a Life Insight Coaching™ Jyotishi?”
We live in challenging times. Although we enjoy advances in technology, medicine, food production, and a better quality of life than ever before in history, still we suffer. Anxiety is on the rise. More people suffer from insomnia than any other ailment. Depression is more wide-spread than the common cold. And many of us live in states of loneliness, isolation, and psychological pain.
The cause for all this suffering in our civilization is not material as it is elsewhere in the world. It is predominantly psychological and spiritual.
For this reason, many people turn to therapies, life coaching, counseling, and even prescription medications to relieve the anguish of this modern age.
While helpful in some cases, these approaches to psychological problems don’t cure the real cause of the issues, which is that most of us don’t know our true and highest purpose in this life, the real reason behind our birth on this planet, and our connection to the larger web of existence that is Spirit.
Jyotisha (Vedic Astrology) is an ancient method for enlightening someone to the hidden depths of their Self, to the easiest path out of suffering, and toward the direction of their highest life’s purpose. In this way, Jyotisha is not conventional astrology, which is often believed to be fortune-telling or a predictive art. Instead, it is true and effective life coaching that produces unbelievable results and breakthroughs.
There is simply nothing more uplifting than to relieve someone of extreme psychological suffering by pointing out their highest spiritual destiny and purpose in this life. This is what I do every day in my work as a Jyotishi.

The Program Goals & Curriculum
Jyotisha is an intricate and profound system of understanding human psychology and the soul’s journey. Because it is part of the ancient Vedic tradition (which was always orally transmitted), it is best learned directly from a teacher with awakened jyoti (inner light), so she can pass that directly on to the sincere student.
Since Jyotisha is not a skill that can be acquired from books, I’ve developed a comprehensive program to:
- Instruct you thoroughly in all the principles of Jyotisha (Vedic Astrology)
- Mentor you to read natal charts of your clients with insight and compassion
- Impart impeccable professional skills to serve your new career with integrity and spirit
The 600-hour curriculum consists of:
Introduction to Jyotisha - The Foundations of Vedic Astrology Program
This course is taken online via our distance learning program - Intro to Jyotisha Community (or live if available)

- One-on-One Tutorials – to be completed with your instructor, Dr. Katyayani Poole, Ph.D.
Throughout its long and enduring history, the knowledge of Jyotisha was always passed down between the direct relationship of teacher and student.
As part of this program, you’ll be required to participate in 10 one-on-one tutorial sessions with Dr. Poole for guidance, insight, and mentoring.
For each 1 hour private session, you’ll be asked to complete 10 hours of homework preparation.
Investment for each private session: $175; Total for all 10 Modules: $1,750

10 Chart analyses to be completed by student
This course may be taken live, in-person or via online/distance learning
Total Hours of Instruction: 100 hrs (based on Ten (10) Private One-on-One Tutorials with Dr. Poole)
Course Length: Paced per Individual
Module Summary:
- 10 chart analyses - Ten private one-on-one tutorials completed by the student and turned in Dr. Poole in typed, report format
Students will be required to complete 10 natal chart analyses with detailed explanation of the rising sign & Nakshatras, important planetary placements and configurations, significant Yogas in the chart, and an interpretation of the dasha sequence of karmic timings of life events
Each completed chart analysis constitutes 10 hours toward certification for a total of 100 hours for this module

100 hours of Research And 25-Page term paper
This course may be taken live, in-person or via online/distance learning
Total Hours of Classroom Instruction: 100 hrs

Module Summary:
- 100 hours of Research - culminating in creation of a 25-page term paper (see topic below)
- Explore Application of Jyotisha - Term paper topic explores an area or application of Jyotisha based on student's individual interest
Every Jyotishi expresses a different competency in the system with which they best use to counsel their clients.
This module will provide you with the opportunity to explore a specific area of interest within the system of Jyotisha. Your unique topic will be decided upon together with Dr. Poole.
Successful completion of the 25-page paper will result in 100 hours toward certification.

Developing Jyoti and Experiencing the Language of Consciousness
Vedic Mediation Practice and Sanskrit for Yogis™
This course may be taken live, in-person or via online/distance learning

Module Summary:
- Vedic Meditation Instruction - instruction and initiation into the Blissful Wave Technique™, an effortless practice of Vedic meditation and subsequent practice to develop the student's consciousness, intuition and jyoti.
- Sanskrit for Yogis™ Instruction - instruction in Sanskrit using the Sanskrit for Yogis Method™ which focuses on the proper pronunciation and understanding of the language of Jyotisha, the language of consciousness.
The two most important tools for becoming an excellent Jyotishi are Vedic Meditation that allows for deep transcendence of the personal ego and the culturing of inner-light or jyoti, and Sanskrit, the language of consciousness in which the system of Vedic Astrology is encoded.
As a technology for expanding consciousness, Sanskrit allows the Jyotishi to perceive the subtle energetics of the planets and stars in the natal chart and the life of the individual. Vedic Meditation opens the Jyotishi’s awareness to the inherent light that underlies all things (the fourth state of consciousness, turiya).
Because of the importance of both, we require all students to have completed the Sanskrit for Yogis™ Introductory to Nada course and receive initiation into the Blissful Wave Technique™ of Vedic Meditation.
Successful completion of both will result in 100 hours toward certification.
